Peter, it's definitely an emotionally and physically go-for-broke performance. I really liked how layers of the character were peeled away more through things like body language and carriage than chunks of raw exposition. I'm not sure there are many actors who could have pulled that off as expressively as Lancaster does here.

Erich - sometimes it just feels a little more appropriate to let the images speak for themselves, you know? FWIW I liked the movie very much.
I like it too, although I haven't seen it in a few years. I was surprised at how far Lancaster was willing to go here.
